You can quit the thing and still crave it. Krishna admits this.

For the embodied one who abstains, the objects of the senses fall away — but the taste for them remains. Even that taste falls away, once the Supreme is truly seen.

SANSKRIT

विषया विनिवर्तन्ते निराहारस्य देहिनः । रसवर्जं रसोऽप्यस्य परं दृष्ट्वा निवर्तते ॥२-५९॥

KRISHNA’S LINE

You can stop reaching for the object and still feel the pull toward it. That pull does not end by force of will. It ends only when something higher is truly seen.
